I hope we are all keeping healthy and engaged during these hard times!! I’m finding the new wordpress block editor very finicky for me and I don’t like it. Perhaps that is because I’m not posting often.
I feel as though I’m drifting through the days in a quiet bubble that outstretched hands cannot break – We have begun to visit with a few family members though and the comfort of nature is still at our doorstep.
But I hope you will let me share with you our journey, Nick’s and mine through the golden time of Summer and a dream of daisy fields at Becher Bay
and capturing the moment of Shell Seekers in the Quarry
And silent descendants of predatory dinosaurs
I often step outside the Spacecraft – trying to comprehend how space bends light and time folds upon itself.
And so, a well received exhibit in July at a virtual gallery I called The Spaces Between ….( thank you John Herring at Kultivate for his support of the arts in all worlds)
And then there was the night of shooting stars atop Mt. Tolmie with folding chairs and binoculars. We were eager to wave our visitor on in his 7000 year journey from the Oort Cloud through our solar system . I loved the silhouette of this couple as they watched and waited too.

As night slowly emerged from behind the glowing sunset curtain we were treated to a few brilliant stars whizzing by that heralded the comet’s appearance. King Jupiter and Lord Saturn arrived from the eastern sky to honour the guest. On July 23 it passed closest to earth at a distance of a mere 103 million kilometres and will continue on it’s lonely mission long after ours is done!! How humble are our lives in the vast cosmos?
The brief journey through summer’s time and space finally brought us to a page from the past and The Lost Airmen of the Empire
“The Lost Airmen of the Empire” was unveiled June 1, 2017 at the Patricia Bay Airport and honours the Allied Airmen who gave their lives while working at RCAF Patricia Bay Air Station as well as those who were aboard aircraft from that base during the Second World War.
These rusted feather sculptures are a tribute to the men and crews of both RCAF and RAF who served, instructed and trained there during WWII. Along with those who were “killed in action” many also died “on active service” for country and king, testing aircraft and flying training missions between 1941-1944.
Some planes went down due to bad coastal weather and/or mechanical malfunctions. Often, those pilots and crewmen had already endured danger, air battles, and tours of duty overseas and most were in their twenties. They have flown on into the universe but their sacrifice has not been forgotten.
dedicated to the memory of RCAF Pilot and instructor Vic R (27) and the crew of the Beechcraft C-45 that went down on Whidby Island. Vic’s widow passed in 2014 at 98 years old. Some of her ashes have been interred with his, her first love and their infant son who also died too soon.

I really enjoyed this story, your photos and the beautiful feather sculptures that were done to honor these men. Timeless. My own father was in England during WWII but was fortunate enough to not see battle and, even though he is 96 now and has dementia, I remember the stories he use to tell about being there and of the men who did not come back. It’s lovely to see you Cybele and to see and hear about your summer. This strange time will seem like a second in cosmic time, but it does seem to be lasting forever at the moment 🙂

Beautiful pictures, my friend, and I know exactly what you mean about feeling that you’re in a bubble – I feel just the same, days pass endlessly, with little distinction between any of them; I feel I’m drifting. Re the WP Editor, I recommend you change back to the original Classic Editor, which is simple and very effective – I’ve been using it for 9 years. Take care! 🙂

Love the comet image – we tried to see it but it was so small and even the most photoshopping in the world wouldn’t fix it up. My friend that lives in Victoria, her father was a signalman at Pat Bay – I am sending her your post to see if she knows about the feathers…

Such lovely images. I have been using the block editor for awhile now and I like it but it took time. I do have one issues with it though…. I have to go back into classic editor to update the images to open when clicked in a separate window then save it then go back tot he block editor to finish make the post. They never fixed that issue or never even thought of it. I want people to click my images to see them bigger and I have to back track to the classic editor to do that. Grrr.

A lovely post, Cybele, with fabulous photos and images. I’ve never actually seen a real comet, other than on film, and your layered photo is wonderful. I haven’t tried the block editor yet and will avoid doing so as long as I can! My daughter Louise isn’t happy with it, which is enough to stop an old techno-idiot like me from trying it.

The art you create with your photography — amazing to say the least. Sounds like you’ve have a beautiful summer. The only thing about living in a forest is missing the sky! LOL! Not necessarily. When clicking on edit in the upper part of a published post, you’re right. Enter your blog via the wp-admin, like before and you’re rid of the block editor.

Very nice offering and glad you got to capture the comet (something I missed). At least I’m assuming it’s your photo, but even if not, excellent treatmnet and image.
Same for the tribute to the airmen.

PS I hate the block editor on WordPress. It deleted my post previously and so I’m kind of frustrated with it lol!

You don’t have to use it (I still use the classic).
When in the block editor, there is a menu on the upper right; click on the three dots to open a sub-menu. At the bottom is the option to switch to classic editor.
At least there is for me.
