Tales for Yuletide

The Little Match Girl

Though it isn’t yet Dec 22 ( the day after Solstice) I never know where I will be or what I will be doing. With my partner and companion still laid up from a serious surgery in November things have been unpredictable.  I also see that many of my old blogging friends have slowed down as I have.

Nevertheless, it was my dream ever since I posted previously about Hans Christian Anderson’s  The Little Match Girl, to try to bring that poignant and classic tale to life in a video story form (called machinima). I finally realized it with the help of an online virtual platform that I blended with my real life photography.  Now I see that there are many versions on YouTube already (of course), but, nevertheless, I will add my own visual interpretation of the story.  I was honoured that someone actually played it for her elementary school class and that people cried. Yet, there is such simplicity and beauty to the story of a little girl’s transcendent visions, of poverty and suffering,  and of the journey of the soul to find heaven.

This is a group of storytellers called the Seanchai Library who re-create the world of Dickens every December in which to bring Scrooge to life in voice and virtual reality immersion. Many of them work in real theater or in libraries.

  5. As this video shows, you really are talented and creative. My Grandmother told me this tale when I was quite young but then she was brought up with Victorian ‘tear-jerkers’
