I’ve had a disastrous week!! My companion eye who presents me with the inspiration to develop my visions has up and died. That lovely day I spent out in the snow apparently was the cause, as moisture somehow got inside the camera while I was shooting (though the camera was in the pack otherwise). After trying to revive it in a bag of rice for a week (this sometimes works according to online advisers), I finally knew it was not going to come back. If anyone else has a Canon rebel series, be advised that they are not sealed well, though they are a good camera otherwise. I now await the delivery of a new, weather sealed Canon 80d, which has a slightly bigger sensor and apparently superior image resolution- though alas, not a full frame ( $3000 and up with lenses) which I cannot afford. Still, because I have an account at a local shop I bought it on a payment plan. I do not have the cash on hand to purchase luxuries. Wait, this is not a luxury, it’s a need!! Now I must work on older images for a while while I await the delivery from back east.

Oh dear… I can imagine your frustration at this happening to your camera. I hope your new one matches up to your expectations and you’ll be out snapping your wonderful scenery again very soon.
The song from Nightwish never seems to date. It’s as hauntingly beautiful now as it was when I first heard it. 🙂

So sorry to hear that your Rebel is ruined. But I’m hopeful that you’ll love the 80D. I got the 70D about a year ago after my 40D got wet….Sigh. Your images are always so soothing and ethereal. I know you’ll continue creating your magic with the new camera.

Ah, Cybele, you brought back a strange memory of mine with your pictures. I remember the first time I visited Stonehenge as a child and hugging those stones. They were all warm from the sun and I swear they vibrated with mystic power!
I’m sorry about your camera lens. Essential things always break when you can least afford to replace them. S**’s law D:

I felt the same way with the stones of Machrie Moor!! It was so wonderful as I hiked (40 minutes) to the spot and no one else was there. I left my SO way behind as he couldn’t quite keep up with me in my eagerness. Sadly Stonehenge is like Chichen Itza and full of chattering tourists!! 😀 which can sometimes spoil the vibe. Yes I hear you. If anything can go wrong it will!!!

Very sorry to hear about the camera, Cybele but – don’t despair! >>> I’ve mostly used full-frame Nikons for my digital photography, but recently am also using Fujifilm cameras with the smaller APS-C sensor – the X-T1 and X-T2 – and the results are absolutely fine. There is not of course quite so much leeway for cropping, but the images are excellent. A

I think your SO will like Sony for its size and weight. I debated long before going from Canon to Sony but have to say I love carrying around a little camera. Not much doubt using your lenses makes the most sense though.

Must be terrible being without the camera Cybele. That new Canon should be great by all accounts though. Maybe you’ll end up thinking of this as a blessing in disguise!

Crumbs, Cybele, cameras are expensive but then it’s your art. I thought the same when I got a new graphics card for my digital work but the difference in photography and what I could do with it was worth the extra expense 🙂

You could always downgrade and go for the 60D, for some unknown reason.
I’ve heard that the 80D is pretty solid.

The only bright spot about a camera dying is getting to purchase a new, updated one! I’m sorry your trusty companion died, but am thrilled you’re able to get a new one, and it will be there soon!
I wish the woods were just behind my house. I have to drive a ways to get there.
The light and mist are wonderful in these images.
I wish it wasn’t so, so cold the day I went to Stonehenge, and I wish I could have spent more time there. Perhaps one day.

I wish it wasn’t so darned expensive to travel!! And we don’t always get the weather we hoped I know! Sometimes a bit of creative editing helps! By the way I cloned out a crowd of people that were standing to the left. Some of these places are so full of tourists and the ones that aren’t are usually hell to hike to through the bracken and briars lol!

Oh No!!!!!!!! not good, but the silver lining is a great new camera. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. And there is nothing wrong with playing with old images, I have so many I haven’t really done anything with and then I am inspired and go looking for ‘that’ shot. Lovely images, I love the Henge ones

Sorry to hear about the camera.
Did you consider buying any of the mirrorless or more compact cameras systems many people are moving to?
I think that were I to replace my Nikon stuff, right now I would seriously consider the Sony offerings. Of course, since I have lenses for Nikon cameras, it makes switching near impossible without committing to spending serious money.

the problem is I have spent a lot of money on lenses and not all lenses fit all camera brands. I’m still at a medium entry camera and cannot afford the $3000 and up models (usually you have to buy different lenses as well for larger sensor cameras so add on another thousand or two). Apparently though, Canon still slightly ups the Sony and Nikon on image resolution according to a few photography articles.
