For all my edits I am using layers, vignettes, and light filters to change colour and shadow effects. I’ve used the story to influence my renderings in hopes that the photos become part of the story and each, a shadow of a memory.

I love the idea of putting photos to a story. I took a course where we read poems in class and then spent the week trying to create photos from the feelings we had from the poems. It was one of my favorite classes!
The ship-ghost is lovely, I can see this as a segue in a movie… or a book cover…
I like the color tones you chose this week too. Nice job. 😀

Love what you’re doing with this string of pearls. I prefer the first version, throwing most of the background out of focus. But I also like the colors in the second and the idea of the texture.

I really like the idea of having the boat and texture superimposed it adds a narrative to the pearls giving some character to an inanimate object.

Love the ghostly ship which tells such a story with hardly any words. It brought to mind a broken string of freshwater pearls that my mother-in-law left for me, along with the note, ‘Jim brought these back from Japan where he was stationed’.

I don’t know how last week got away from me. I read your intimate, beautiful story, I marveled at your pearls and perfectly quoted excerpt and didn’t get the words to you! Sorry.

What sensitive, beautiful work, Cybele. I like the gentle tones like those of an ocean, the ghost of a ship in the background, the blur and texture echoing the fading memory of times gone by, and the framing, like an old photograph. Very inspiring.

I think it helps that I read your story and that my grandmother was passionate about her pearls and had some real adventures involving the big liners, German U-Boats and being rescued by the Maltese from the waters of the Mediterranean!

sometimes we are too late to ask the questions!! So many stories can be lost sadly!!

She didn’t really share her stories with us grandchildren! We didn’t see her a lot as she lived in Malta. I would have loved to know more about my grandfather too, but he passed away when I was 9. He never really spoke to anyone about everything he did during the war but I do know he was quite a hero!

Oh, Cybele, it’s marvellous! The colour shift makes it appear as if golden sunlight is falling on the pearls and I love the layer with the distant ship 🙂
