Robyn’s One Four challenge– week 2
A Birth ( chapter 2)
One day an elephant appeared on the mantel. He had ivory tusks and his trunk curled upward in blessing. A clock was sitting inside the howdah perched on top of his back. The father of the little Miss was a world traveler and often brought back unusual treasures from far off places. Bonnie Tuliptoes was lulled happily by the tick tock of the time piece and Buttercup Bib moved closer to get a better look. Bluebell stared at it and contentedly sucked her thumb but Cowslip was totally unsure of the whole business and her lip quivered fearfully.
Another time they awoke to a cunning, gold filigreed, Faberge egg which was poised on a tiny gold stand. The porcelain tots watched and waited in quiet expectancy. One morning a gilt cage stood by the window and inside it a yellow canary began to sing jubilantly. The egg had hatched at last. Unfortunately the bird song startled poor cowslip who cried all the harder. However, the elephant’s trunk appeared to be raised a bit higher as if the melody had a pleasing odour and Bonnie squealed in joyful delight.
Chapter Three: The Garden Tea
on this week’s process I cropped and turned the photo to frame the face. I used a sepia Fotosketch, a touch of glow and blur, and layered it to show a hint of colour. – All that !! 🙂

Love this challenge, so wish I had to to participate- Love your renderings.But I like the original best. I should have visisted your blog more often , how inspirational. I have started a full time job few months back and I seem to be so pressed for time. I will be back for sure .

I think I quite like the rotation of the image Cybele. I changes the appearance of the little one’s face quite dramatically.

Oh dear Cybele ! How interesting the second chapter and the editing of the photos.You see,different angle different perspective,that’s the art of photography.Loved the sweet story and it was nice to meet Bluebell and Buttercup.
You have handsomely presented it with every little detail,even the cast is included!

I haven’t been doing this challenge so missed your entry here. I don’t find this doll creepy – just full of spark and character. I like the way you have blurred the image – it gives it a nostalgic feel – more like a image from memory than an actual photograph.

I think this is a brilliant picture but I can’t help but be creeped out by dolls and the bigger contrast between the skin and the eyes makes this seem creepier than week one or the original. I really like the black around the edge as well

Believe it or not, porcelain dolls normally freak me out (I know that’s odd), but your little story and photos made me think them rather sweet. See what magic you perform, Cybele!

What a sweet picture. I love that story. The elephant clock, the Faberge egg [which I would LOVE to have one by the way 😉 ], and the canary song that startled little cowslip. Poor little thing with those big alligator tears! 🙂

Yep, the lighter tone is a relief! I have some doll pictures too and this puts me in mind of using them another time here, but my dolls are scary on a whole other level!

yes, scary dolls and spooky children!! I seem to be guilty of that. Even the ones I take of real children can look a bit brooding!! Thanks so much for your comment. It’s a bit limiting working with a porcelain figure- I’m not sure what to do next!!

Well done on this week’s edit, Cybele. I love the crop as it gives us a much closer look at the sweet if startled face. Like the lighter feel too. And of course we get double the enjoyment with the story to go with the image. I smiled at the egg hatching! Chris

If I am just looking at your image it reminds me of lying on my back in the grass during the summertime and watching the clouds go by. I would find all sorts of interesting things in those clouds!

I find dolls a bit disturbing at the best of times…..but these are just creepy

Doll’s eyes and spooky children are great subjects for ghostly stories etc!! I see my characters much differently- as a little fairy tale I’m weaving!! You must have read M.R. James creepy doll house ghost stories when you were young!! 😀

How nice to see all her friends, what a pity Cowslip is always sobbing! The Fotosketcher effect is very effective, it looks almost like newsprint, (unless thats just my screen!) Great twist of angle too, it frames her nicely. 🙂
