The Dream Threshold- and Monochrome Madness

( fun with an older photo)

Somewhere beyond the cold and dusty sweep of Orion’s arm and the garden,  Andromeda lies dreaming of  broken chains

A few useless facts:

Alpha Centauri, our closest stellar neighbour ( actually a triple star system) appears to have an earth like planet orbiting one of it’s stars with a probability of life, and therefore,  spectral flowers which may be fertilized by the luminescent grounds of a cosmic espresso. ( tips from the Moon gardener)

do you wanna dance

And once upon a time in a galaxy far away, any doomsday enthusiasts will be happy to know that love struck Andromeda (M31) is rushing headlong into the arms of the Milky Way. Now that will be an incredible wedding dance!

Aquileana has already posted some Greek characters that have constellations. I think sometime she might post on the 12 constellations of the zodiac and their links to the Greeks Gods and Goddesses, but according to a science called Astrometry (not astrology). It’s how they mapped the constellations when there no telescopes. They had to do it with the naked eye. Astrology came later, and it’s largely considered a “pseudoscience”. The Zodiac has its history without the “astrology” part, through “Astrometry”. This can be dated back to Hipparchus, who around 190 BC used the catalogue of his predecessors Timocharis and Aristillus to discover the earth’s precession. In doing so, he also developed the brightness scale still in use today. Hipparchus compiled a catalogue with at least 850 stars and their positions. Hipparchus’s successor, Ptolemy, included a catalogue of 1,022 stars in his work the Almagest, giving their location, coordinates, and brightness. And this was all done with the naked eye.

      2. it’s absolutely amazing what they did, – their observations with the naked eye!! I belonged to the Royal Astronomical society of Canada some years back. I love the night sky!! I would like to be able to do more astro photography. Thank you Maria for a most interesting comment and information!!! I see you are a “star gazer” too!! 🙂

The first Star Atlas were named “Uranometrias” or “Uranographias”, Uranometria is the short title of a star atlas first produced by Johann Bayer. It was published in Augsburg in 1603. Different engravers drew the constellations according to the Greek characters:

        The engravings are gorgeous.
