This is my vision of the true Scotland, the misty mountain, moor and glen of the Highlands. These were taken from the summit of the Ben Nevis range near Fort William, loved by hikers, mountain bikers and skiers, to the beautiful glens of Glencoe known for the infamous event where the Macdonalds invited the Campbell’s for supper and the Campbells repaid by murdering their hosts as they slept, including women and children. So life imitated art -as in the play about MacBeth’s ambitious treachery written in the 1600s!!
There is still a pub somewhere in the vicinity whose sign reads “Campbell’s are not welcome” over 350 years later!
At the moment the Scottish referendum is a resounding YES amongst highlanders and we shall soon see the historic outcome and ramifications. I am wishing the best for them on all fronts.
I also visited the beautiful island of Arran on the Firth of Clyde where Robert the Bruce is said to have encountered the spider (Try, try and try again) while hiding in one of the sea caves. It inspired him onward in his fight. Also the beautiful Machrie Moor with the standing stones and Fingal’s cauldron is there.
Castles and churches will follow in another post! Travelling can be tiring and am not always able to get on line! I hope you enjoy my Scotland!

Just booked another trip over the pond. First to Germany and then on to Scotland to Findhorn near Forress, a great place where witches such as yours were rolled down the hill in barrels. My friend Leona has moved back to the Findhorn community and we’ll probably start our yearly journey from there. We may head to your favorite place..ala Ireland, as we are fast on the track of wells (as in Bridget’s) this time around. I’ve been told that the Water Spirits want to have their say. We will see. It will most likely include all the elements as there’s not much to say if you do them individually. Then again, one never knows when dealing with the Elemental Kingdom. Anyway, I’ll keep plugging along. Off now to write about the Hermitage near Dunkeld of Shakespeare fame (and home of 2 of our 3 timeshares). Later, I decided, “I will” write about the witches memorial and my experience there. It seems that people like witchy stuff!
Anyway my dear…write on or as we also use to say..right on!

PS I love Dunkeld! My grandfather grew up along the River Tay though Nan was a MacLeod of Hebrides. We’ve spent a lot of time in that area. I have not been to Findhorn.

My heart belongs to Scotland even though I’m a California girl. I’m there at least twice a year and travel sacred sites getting insight into the past. Yes, I love the Fairy Glen on Skye and am working on a Passage from the Hermitage near Dunkeld at the moment. I’m tempted to start doing a few “channelings” from the sites of the witch burnings…starting with the one I wrote about before. A broken arm does make one take notice. Just wanted to say that Scotland is my heart and I weeps each time I leave. Back again in October if the fates allow, a journey of stones and portals and Nature Spirits alive with information we all need. Thanks again, Cheri

I will be following your journeys. I was born in Dublin but my mother is from Scotland. I’ve spent a lot of time in both places but wish I could go twice a year too!! Lucky lady! Your heritage must be Scottish as well.

Actually not. I’m 3 parts Norwegian and one part Welch..of the Morgan tribe..me claiming Morgana of Arthur fame as family, of course. It’s the starkness of the hills, the heather when it blooms purple in the fall, the green of the glens, the stones that fist called me years ago that bring me back. Luckily I have convinced my husband of this and we have bought 3 times shares there. We travel each summer together and then another time I journey with a wild woman friend to the sacred sites to conjure up some passages for my books. Scotland is in the blood they say..and if one can hear the pipes and they are moved then even if you have one drop of Scottish blood ..you are Scotts. Of course the pipes make me cry. The older i get the more I find Nature and her call is what sustains me. A total hippy at heart, I actually thought I’d gotten over that in the 60’s. If you want to be truly moved please go on line and listen to Steve McDonalds music. It’s magical.

yes, of course!! btw my dna shows a percentage of Scandinavian too, not surprising as the Vikings were all over Scotland. A time share sounds interesting! I will also check out Steve McDonald. I like to include Celtic pieces in my posts! As for ancestral claims, I like to think it’s Grania O’Malley on the Irish side lol!! You definitely have a celtic soul!! About me has a tiny bit of my own history.

How I envy your knowledge. As I was going through school I hated history the most because at the time I just wasn’t interested in it. Now that I am, I don’t have the time to learn as much as I wish I could. But, trying to retain all of that would be difficult as well. I hope to visit there someday!

And for all the Scottish blood in my veins, none of it is Campbell.
The Scots are still fighting each other! I have a friend in one of the Scottish isles who voted differently from her husband in the referendum. I haven’t dared inquire whether they’re talking to each other today, after the results!

Absolutely gorgeous, Cybele. Just as I dreamed it from childhood! I have Burns and Wallace in my family line and I’m gearing up the nerve to begin my Scottish and Irish genealogy! Dare I say I’ve seen references to a sept clan of Campbell. Perhaps I should keep quiet until it’s proven or disproven! Oh, my! 😀

Genealogy can be fun-like detective work!! There will be both triumph and tragedy, fortune and misfortune as in my story of “a canticle for meg!!” we are both Scots and Irish too!! Have you visited either place yet?

Family lore has both as relatives and they may be somewhere. I think Robbie may be through an umpteen great uncle rather than a direct line. Not sure yet about William! Time will tell as the hunt continues! 😆
I have always dreamed of visiting Scotland, Ireland and England and though I don’t actually see it in my future, I am still breathing and the dream lives! 😉
